Outcome 1:

Translate and integrate scholarship as a foundation for nursing and healthcare.

1a. Address ethical issues related to scholarship.

As nurses, we are faced with ethical issues every day. Nurses should use ethical ways of knowing before making any decisions that can affect others' lives. We need to determine if our morals are right before educating or treating clients. While completing an evidence-based group project, I discovered how ethical issues are prevalent in research studies and the need for further research is a common finding to avoid bias.

1b. Build on clinical expertise focusing on a population of interest.

I began a group evidence-based project, which started with a PICO(T) question of interest to our group. We built upon this question with a search flow diagram which allowed us to find numerous research articles on children with chronic illness, and the prevalence of depression and/or anxiety.

1c. Demonstrate use of the research process.

Using extensive research, I developed a policy called, "Universal Precautions to Prevent the Transmission of Bed Bugs" and compared it with current articles utilizing proper research methods. I researched articles using a PICO(T) question and critiqued their strengths and weaknesses.

1d. Integrate theory and research outcomes into nursing administration, education and practice.

Research is critical to nursing and to the future of healthcare. I created a concept analysis which relates to pain, chronicity, and quality of life. Concept analysis allows nurses to learn from research, and apply the knowledge to nursing administration, education, and practice. Utilizing proper research methods, I was able to integrate a clinical guideline of smoking cessation during pregnancy into my current practice.

1e. Contribute to quality improvement and population health by embracing change and innovation through evidence

      based nursing and interprofessional collaboration.

I discussed how nurses can help control healthcare costs, value-based purchasing, and costing out nursing services to improve quality in healthcare. Cost-benefit analysis and cost-effective analysis are two different methods discussed to help determine if new programs and services should be developed based on their cost value and impact on population health.
